Paris, France — Over 200 Accor hotels have been planned in an Asia-Pacific regional expansion for the hotel giant headquartered in Paris, it was announced on Wednesday.

Already the Asia-Pacific region’s largest hotel group, Accor plans to open 227 additional hotels “in the next three to four years”, which translates to more than 49,000 extra rooms, the French group’s Asia-Pacific chief operating officer Michael Issenberg told AFP.

“It’s the fastest growing part of the world”, he said during an interview in Jakarta.

The expansion shows the group’s continued confidence in the region, even though there has been a slowdown of growth in key markets.

Accor is the six biggest hotel group in the world with brands including Novotel, Sofitel and Pullman.

The group currently has 560 hotels and 107,000 rooms in the Asia-Pacific region, according to Yahoo News.

China, the fastest growing market in the region, presently has 135 Accor hotels and will get 90 new ones in the expansion.

Indonesia is the group’s second-fastest growing market in the region. The nation is Southeast Asia’s biggest economy, and already has 73 Accor hotels, with an additional 71 planned in the expansion.

“After China, the biggest market for development is Indonesia. The hotel market in Indonesia has a very, very bright future,” Issenberg said.

Gerard Guillouet, senior vice president for Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore, added that Accor was on track to have 100 hotels in Indonesia by 2015.
