Man United midfielder Angel Di Maria joins PSG

Angel Di Maria joins PSG – Angel Di Maria has agreed a four-year contract with Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG have completed the signing of Manchester United midfielder Angel Di Maria for a fee of £44.3m. The Argentine international leaves English Premier League side just one year after he joined as their record signing last season. He underwent a medical test in Qatar on Tuesday. The Reds paid £59.7m to get him out of Santiago Bernabeu last summer.

“Leaving United was not only my decision. I’m here because they wanted to sell me, it was a collective decision. The three parties agreed. Me, Manchester United and PSG agreed the deal.” Di Maria said. “Things didn’t quite work out at Manchester United for various reasons, but that’s in the past. Now it’s the present,” he added.

The move was on the cards as the Argentine international failed to join up with the team on their pre-season tour of North America last month. The athlete struggled to make a mark in the United camp due to a run of injuries during his stay at Old Trafford and ultimately lost his place in the team to Ashley Young.

Di Maria, 27, made a bright start to his Old Trafford career, with a goal and an assist in three of his first four matches. However, he was able to score just two goals in his next 23 appearances for the team. Former Real Madrid winger will be competing with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi for a starting place at PSG.

United manager Louis van Gaal is trying to strengthen his squad by signing Barcelona forward Pedro. The 28-year-old is frustrated at Barcelona due to lack of playing time following the signing of Neymar and Luis Suarez. IMAGE/101greatgoals.com
